I painted over the hand bah which explains the semi realistic look to it.
The title says "clinging" Impasto, it doesn't really look like he's clinging, but more like casually holding himself up as he climbs. To make it seem more like he's clinging, I would make the look on his face more despirate, or make his hand look like it has a tighter grip.
